How to buy Pokémon cards on eBay safely

Most eBay sellers are honest, and the bad listings share the same signs. Check the price against the going rate, read the photos and read the seller. Pay through eBay so its protection covers you.

Know the price first

A listing is only a bargain against what the card sells for.

  • Look the card up on our card pages for its raw and graded prices.
  • Match the printing and the condition to the listing.
  • For a sealed product, check its page for today's shop price.

Reading a listing

  • The photos: the real card, front and back, out of its sleeve.
  • The title: the set, the card number and the condition.
  • The seller: a record of card sales, and feedback you can read.
  • The returns: a seller who takes returns stands by the listing.

eBay's authenticity check

Confirmed

  • Since May 2026, cards sold for £500 or more on eBay's UK site are checked before delivery.

Reported, not confirmed

  • The check confirms the card matches the listing. It does not grade the card.
  • Lots, boxes and packs are not covered.

Sealed boxes on eBay

Resealed boxes are sold on marketplaces more than anywhere else.

Our guide to fake and resealed boxes lists the signs, with a price checker.

Know the going price before you search, and run the checklist above on any listing you open.

Common questions

Is it safe to buy Pokémon cards on eBay?

Yes, with care. Buy from sellers with a record, check the photos, and pay through eBay so its money back guarantee applies.

How do I avoid fake Pokémon cards on eBay?

Avoid stock photos, vague titles and prices far below the rest. Ask for a photo of the back. Check the card on arrival, with our guide to fakes.

Are cheap Pokémon card lots on eBay worth it?

Lots that promise rare cards for a low price are where fakes and bulk are sold. A lot priced like bulk is bulk.

What does eBay's authenticity check cover?

Single cards sold for £500 or more. A checker confirms the card matches the listing before it goes to the buyer. Lots, boxes and packs are not covered.

How do I know if an eBay price is fair?

Look the card up on our card pages. They show what it sells for raw and graded, across the market.
